For all those who are thinking about what 5Ws and 1H mean- it is who, when, why, what, why and how. Yes, the song playing on my head is “Yeh kya huya, kaise huya, kab huya, kyu huya?” etc etc etc. I mean, if you are watching the film with all the hype and expectation and also not want to overlook the evident amount of flaws present in the film just because it has Aamir Khan , then well, this film is not the best bet.

While I can be subtle with what I have just watched right at 8 am in the morning, I choose not to be… This has been one of the most anticipated films of the year, the hype had been huge and so was the fall! I mean a film with such gigantic potential fails to even create a connection and that really is a sad story for Bollywood .

The film has many things to boast about- it has a star cast to die for. Who would not want to see Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan together and in one frame? It is a delight indeed and their performances would not disappoint you. They put in their best, and so do Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif , if you even consider her. The VFX is gorgeous and you would love the frames. But what is the story really? And why is it even there!

Throughout the entire film, I had not just questioned my decision to watch it but also questioned the sensibilities of all the actor and the producers. I mean why did Aamir even decide to team with Vijay Krishna Acharya after the giant disappointment called Dhoom 3? Maybe they were looking for an even bigger disappointment. Even though the film is an adaptation of a bestseller novel called the Confessions Of A Thug, the screenplay is so loose that it looks just like a juxtaposition of a few scenes rather than an organic whole. The film fails to evoke anything other than disappointment.

Fatima Sana Shaikh plays a desi Hawkeye and every time she enters there is that one background score that plays on. I mean, even Ajay-Atul disappoints with the music that just bores you throughout.

The film gets so predictable by the end that the twists make you feel like a fortune teller who can not just predict the scenes but the dialogues as well!

There are scenes in the film where you do get excited and hope, just hope that this time this buildup will have a superb result, only to realize that it will land straight on your face, like a slap asking why even did you have so much expectation! There are also moments that would make you go complete facepalm. Let me illustrate a few (sans spoilers).

Exhibit 1: Aamir Khan’s entry sequence was supposed to be the best. So, to provide the impact, he makes him move back and forth. Yeah, remember those old techniques where the tape would rewind, that one!

Exhibit 2: The British officer realizes that the men, and women, he is looking for is dancing in front of him. But he watches the entire song because entertainment is important bro.

Exhibit 3: Katrina, who is just doing a cameo, has a dialogue that goes, “Tumhare muh se sharam sunkar sharam ko bhi sharam aa jaegi.”

If you still need more reason to watch the film, then just go and watch and remember to pray. But you can well choose to hang out with your friends this weekend rather than waste these close to 3 hours of your lives.
