Directors Guild of America Awards: Alfonso Cuaron takes away top honour for Gravity

This Saturday night, on January 25, it was time for Directors Guild of America Awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza honouring the most talented directors of 2013. It’s also considered as an indicator for the prospective winner of Best Director Award at the upcoming Oscars. This year the top honour for best direction has been given to Gravity helmer Alfonso Cuaron.

The guild comprised of 15,000 voters and as far as history of the last decade is concerned, 90% of the DGA winners have taken ahead their successful journey with the most prestigious Academy Awards too. The show was hosted by Jane Lynch. In the other major category, Jehane Noujaim has been declared as Best Documentary Director for The Square. The winners from the television industry include Vince Gilligan for Breaking Bad’s Felina episode, Steven Soderbergh for Behind the Candelabra and Beth McCarthy-Miller for the 30 Rock finale.

• Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Mini-series: Steven Soderbergh (Behind the Candelabra)
• Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs: Neil P. DeGroot (72 Hours, “The Lost Coast”)
• Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Variety/Talk/News/Sports – Specials: Glenn Weiss (The 67th Annual Tony Awards)
• Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Variety/News/Talk/Sports – Regularly Scheduled Programming: Don Roy King (Saturday Night Live, “Saturday Night Live with Host Justin Timberlake”)
• Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children’s Programs: Amy Schatz (An Apology to Elephants)
