SRK Offers Condolences To Cancer Patient Who's Last Wish Was To Meet Him

Cancer patient Aruna PK , whose last wish was to meet Shah Rukh Khan , died in Gurgaon on Tuesday after battling the disease for six years. She was 60.

A retired Indian Railways employee, Aruna was born in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar. She lost her husband in 1998 to Hepatitis B. She is survived by her children Akshat (24) and Priyanka (34).

Aruna was diagnosed with third stage ovarian cancer in February 2011 and blood cancer in July 2017, Parikshit Sachdeva, her son’s friend, told Hindustan Times. She was admitted in Gurgaon’s Artemis Hospital and was a die-hard Shah Rukh Khan fan.

The announcement of Aruna’s death was made by her son on Twitter on Tuesday. “Even God needs happiness in times of chaos. May the purest and happiest soul of Maa @Arunapk57 Rest in Peace.Thank you everyone,” read Akshat’s tweet.

Shah Rukh noticed Aruna’s condition when several well-wishers of the cancer patient united to start a Twitter campaign - #SRKmeetsAruna - by posting pictures of the 60-year-old on a hospital bed. They tagged SRK in the tweets. Unfortunately, Aruna’s last wish of meeting the star could not be fulfilled.

Soon after Aruna’s death, SRK offered his condolences.

The Jab Harry Met Sejal star took to Twitter on October 21 to send a message to Aruna through his fan page, SRK Universe, praying for her speedy recovery.

“I’m made to understand through your son Akshat and daughter Priyanka that you are fighting with an illness. I want to say this that me, my whole family, all our friends whoever knows about you, we are praying for your wellness,” said Shah Rukh in the video.

SRK wanted to talk to Aruna over phone, but her deteriorating condition did not allow a conversation.

“You are in a state where meeting you is perhaps not a possibility. I know this for a fact, with the positivity that you carry around that you will get well soon and we will meet very soon”, he said. He even promised to perform for Aruna on her favourite song of him when they met.

Earlier this year, Aruna took to Twitter to write a thread on why she likes people from the different Indian states. She wrote she loved Punjabis for their large heartedness, Bengalis because of their lovely eyes and long hair, Gujaratis for their lovely dresses, and so forth.
