I Would Have Played Kattappa Better Had I Got The Chance: Gulshan Grover

Gulshan Grover has no qualms admitting he is a greedy actor. He believes in portraying characters that fascinate him. In love with how filmmaker SS Rajamouli sketched the character of Kattappa in the Baahubali series, Grover says he could have played the part better.

“Challenging roles bring out the best in me. I’m greedy and on the lookout for such characters. When I saw Baahubali, I felt Rajamouli had wonderfully penned the character of Kattappa. And the second thing that came to my mind is that I would have played the role better. Had I got the opportunity, the character would have excelled more,” says Grover, who earned the title of the Bad Man of Bollywood, having played villainous roles in films such as Ram Lakhan (1989) and International Khiladi (1999).

The actor adds that he has the qualities that are essential in a negative character. “There is certain physicality, panache and expression that are required for such roles and I have all of them in me.” Grover, however, doesn’t deny that Sathyaraj, who won applause for playing Kattappa, “has done a decent job”.

Does director Rajamouli know about Grover’s desire to play a role like that? The actor says he has already shared his thoughts with Rajamouli, who, in turn, has shown interest in working with him. “Rajamouli is a superb director. I’d love to collaborate with him,” says Grover.
