Dhanush’s VIP 2 will release on his birthday on July 28

Basking in the success of his directorial debut Power Paandi, Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his project, VIP 2, a sequel to his own 2014 hit action-comedy Vella Illa Pattathari aka VIP. Directed by his sister-in-law Soundarya Rajinikanth, the film marks the comeback of Kajol to Tamil filmdom after a decade. It has been officially announced that the film will hit the screens worldwide on July 28, as per Dhanush’s latest tweet on Tuesday.

Having worked with his wife Aishwarya in 3, this is the first time Dhanush has worked with his sister-in-law. Interestingly, he happens to be the only actor to have worked with every filmmaker to come out of his family, including his father Kasthuri Raja and brother Selvaraghavan. In VIP 2, Dhanush will lock horns with Kajol, who is supposedly playing a conniving, suave businesswoman. In her recent media interaction, she had said, “The film is very different for both - Dhanush and me. They’re both well-defined characters and the script is interesting. I have strict instructions from Soundarya to not reveal anything about the film.”

Jointly produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations, VIP2 has retained Amala Paul, Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani from the first part. Sean Roldan, who won the hearts of music lovers with Dhanush’s directorial debut Power Paandi, has scored the tunes for the project.
