‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ Opens The NY Indian Film Festival
‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ has been making headlines for quite some time now. The film, which had been refused certification from India’s censor board, will be launched at the 17th edition of the prominent New York Indian Film Festival on April 30 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. Alankrita Shrivastava’s women-oriented film also opened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.
The festival will also premiere 44 shorts, documentaries and feature films and will also pay homage to India’s legendary actor late Om Puri through the Sen Sharma-helmed ‘A Death In The Gunj’. Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla’s ‘An Insignificant Man’ will be the pride and joy of the festival on May 3, whereas Milind Dhaimade’s ‘You Are My Sunday’ is set for May 7 premiere, marking the closing ceremony of the fest. Also, in the queue is premiere of Ventilator and Sarvaan produced by actor Priyanka Chopra.
Konkona Sen Sharma starrer also bagged the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival. The other cast of the film includes Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur, Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey and Shashank Arora. India’s Central Board of Film Certification denied certification to the film because it claimed that it was women-oriented and had a lot of abusive words.
