Not right to judge celebs when they reveal their problems publicly: Richa Chadha
Actor Richa Chadha (right) doesn’t believe in mincing her words. Time and again, she has expressed strong opinions about various issues in the film industry. Sometime back, she also made a confession and came out clean about battling bulimia — an eating disorder characterised by binge eating. Besides Richa, there are many other celebs who have made shocking revelations about how they suffered and overcame a particular disorder.
Clearly, it has become a trend of sorts among celebrities to share their personal issues on a public platform, “I don’t think they should be called confessions at all. It’s not like we are revealing that we have done something illegal. It’s something we’ve dealt with — whether its abuse, self confidence issues, some injury or a disorder that other people may not necessarily speak about,” says Richa.
On being asked if such confessions can harm a celeb’s career, the actor says, “As an actor you are going to be more vulnerable and feel a certain way about yourself and the world. And sometimes, a celeb’s life is not all rosy, so I don’t think one should judge anybody who comes out clean.”
Ask her if there’s any plan to marry and settle down soon, the actor quips, “Women are always asked about getting married, settling down and having kids and to choose between career and family, and I don’t want to encourage that trend.”
Not the one to think of marriage as the be all and end all of a woman’s life, Richa adds, “Also it’s not nice to say settling down. Why are we settling down? Are we dust or mud? What if you’re already settled down in your head? What if you’re already at peace and you’re evolving and growing and becoming wiser and more intelligent and more beautiful … what about that?”
