I am an anomaly in Pakistan: Mahira Khan on being a single mom

She missed touring India with Shah Rukh Khan to promote Raees, and now, the Pakistan censor board has stalled the release of her Bollywood debut in the country.

However, Mahira Khan hopes to watch the film in Pakistan soon.

The actor may be drawing appreciation for the way she mesmerised the audience in Raees, but there’s more to her than a pretty face. Mahira is a single mother living in a country notorious for grudging women their independence.

In real life, the actor plays mom to a cute boy named Azlaan. She had divorced his father, Ali Askari, in 2015.

Asked if it is difficult being a single mom in her country, Mahira told The Quint, “Yes, I am an anomaly in my country. I hope there will be more women like me in the coming years.”

Describing the struggles of maintaining her career while raising a son, Mahira told the website that she does one film at a time to manage things. “My first priority is my child. It’s a lot of hard work, but it can be done. It’s all about choices. Many times, I have to let go of good work. Fortunately, the work I’ve done has worked for me,” she said.
