Britney Spears' niece regains consciousness after nearly drowning in an accident

Actor-singer Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter and niece of singer Britney Spears, Maddie Aldridge, is on the path to recovery. The eight-year-old, who had nearly drowned after being involved in a tragic ATV accident, is off the ventilator, reported People magazine.

“With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday, February 7,” said the hospital authorities in a statement provided by a Spears family representative.

The spokesperson added that Maddie is “awake and talking” and recognises her family members who have been by her side since the accident took place.

The statement continued, “Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being monitored closely but it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.”

Maddie’s condition was initially critical and recently her aunt singer Britney Spears had asked fans to send “wishes and prayers” to her niece.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department in the US has released details regarding the incident, revealing Maddie had crashed the Polaris off-roading vehicle into a pond just 100 yards away from where her family-including actor Jamie Lynn Spears and her step-father Jamie Watson-was standing and watching her ride, reported E! online.
