Mahira Khan’s Role In Raees To Be Cut Down?
The recent Uri attacks caused uneasiness in the country which demanded a war between India and Pakistan. The attack not only left an impact on the people but on the movie industry too. While, all the Pakistani artistes left India after MNS issued an ultimatum to Pakistani artists working in India, asking them to leave the country within 48 hours or risk being beaten up, the political party also demanded ban on movies featuring Pakistani artists. The stir trapped Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which had Fawad Khan, however, the movie released successfully and was a huge hit.
Another movie that was dragged in it was Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees as it features Pak actress Mahira Khan. Rumours were rife that Mahira will be replaced by a Bollywood actress in the film. However, fresh gossip about the flick is that her role in the film will be chopped up and shortened. If reports are to be believed, “Mahira is an attractive and popular Pak actress and Raees is her big-ticket Bollywood launch. But while she does play Shah Rukh’s love interest, it is not really a romantic film. Her role is like Parveen Babi’s in Yash Chopra’s 1975 crime-drama Deewaar. This one revolves around the conflict between Shah Rukh Khan who plays a bootlegger, Raees Alam, and ACP Ghulam Patel enacted by Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is on his trail. So, it wasn’t difficult to trim her role which has been done with the intention of not hurting public sentiment”.
The film features Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan in pivotal roles. The action thriller film is directed by Rahul Dholakia and bankrolled by Gauri Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment. Raees is scheduled to release on January 26, next year.
