According to recent reports, Jackie Chan is all set to be awarded a lifetime achievement Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the Hong Kong-born action star and martial artist will be receiving the accolade for his extraordinary contribution in films. The Kung Fu Panda actor will join documentary maker Frederick Wiseman, British film editor Anne V. Coates and casting director Lynn Stalmaster as recipients of the 2016 Governors Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in a statement, “After making his motion picture debut at the age of eight, Chan brought his childhood training with the Peking Opera to a distinctive international career. He starred in - and sometimes wrote, directed and produced - more than 30 martial arts features in his native Hong Kong, charming audiences with his dazzling athleticism, inventive stunt work and boundless charisma”.

Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs stated, “The Honorary Award was created for artists like Jackie Chan, Anne Coates, Lynn Stalmaster, and Frederick Wiseman - true pioneers and legends in their crafts. The board is proud to honour their extraordinary achievements, and we look forward to celebrating with them at the Governors Awards in November”. The honorary Oscar statuette will be presented to the celebrities at a gala in Los Angeles scheduled for November 12.

In August, Chan was ranked the second-highest paid actor in the world by Forbes.
