Will Padmavati Ever Find The Two Men She Has Been Longing For?
Last month it was announced that after the epic Bajirao Mastani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will turn his attention to another epic Padmavati. The film, it was reported, will be based on tyrant emperor Alauddin Khilji's obsession for Padmavati, the queen of Chittor.
And this news was quickly followed that the ace director has decided on Deepika Padukone for the role of Padmavati and Ranveer Singh for Alauddin Khilji's character.
So, after the success of Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajrao Mastani, we were going to be fortunate enough to see the pairing of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone one more time.
Ram and Leela. Bajirao and Mastani. Allaudin and Padmavati. <3
And quickly things picked up and it was confirmed that Deepika Padukone would be starring as Padmavati and would be paid a hefty sum for 12.56 crore, making her the highest paying Indian actress. Also, the release date of the movie was also finalised: 25 December, 2017.
But then came another detail...
Based on the life of Padmavati, there was another pivotal role in the mix i.e. the role of Padmavati’s husband Rawal Ratan Singh.
So, this movie won't be a two person intense love affair like this:
But will be an intense two-person love affair, with the third person hanging out in the background like this:
We said to ourselves, "No problem, more the merrier. Let's find our Rawal Ratan Singh."
So we waited...
First it was reported that an unknown TV actor has been rejected by Deepika Padukone. It was said the actress wanted someone more established, you know someone who has done movies as there are reportedly several love-making scenes in the film.
Okay, no problem. Anyway, Deepika deserves better,
At this moment, there came the news that Vicky Kaushal has been picked for the role. We were impressed at this bold choice: Vicky Kaushal has a short-lived career but he has done films like Masaan and Raman Raghav 2.0. We were pumped.
But nooo... the reports were dismissed quickly and we were once again back to square one.
And then came a shining light of hope.
Reports said that Fawad Khan had agreed to play the role of Rawal Ratan Singh.
Okay a quick note:
According to folklore, Allaudin Khilji makes a fool of Rawal Ratan Singh to spend time with Padmavati and thus the character wasn't the strongest one, or at least it wasn't as strong as the Ranveer SIngh's character.
But whatever, Fawad Khan had agreed for the role and we were all excited for the movie. You know, just look at the star-cast:
But our happiness didn't last...
It was announced that Fawad Khan isn't part of the project. The same reports now said that the Pakistani actor hadn't even been approached for the role.
We mean, WTF.
We had no option but to wait. In the meantime, reports kept confirming and rejecting actors for the role of Rawal Ratan Singh.
First came, Shahid Kapoor. Hurray.
Then came, Shah Rukh Khan. Woohoo.
But no confirmation, no reprieve, no Padmavati.
And yesterday there was another shocking development.
It was reported that Ranveer Singh had dropped out of Padmavati.
What? Say it's not true.
The reports stated that the Befikre actor had asked Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a narration of the role and it soured their relationship as the director is hurt by the lack of trust shown by the actor.
So now, here's the situation:
Apparently now the only thing left in Padmavati is Padmavati.
