Idris Elba As The Gunslinger?

Deadline has reported that Luther star Idris Elba is the top choice to play Roland Deschain a.k.a The Gunslinger in the big screen adaptation of the Dark Tower novel series by Stephen King. He will be sharing screen space with Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey, who is currently Sony Pictures and MRC’s top choice for Randall Flag a.k.a The Man in Black. Nikolaj Arcel will be directing the film.

The author spoke about the cinematic adaptation previously and said, “I’m excited that ‘The Dark Tower’ is finally going to appear on the screen. Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books”.

Releasing on January 13, 2017, The Dark Tower screenplay has been scripted by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. The movie will be based on the first book of the series. It was initially planned that Ron Howard would helm the project but now he will be producing the series.
