Ranveer Singh has joined hands to raise funds for mid-day meals in over 10,000 schools
Apart from his professional pursuits, Ranveer Singh is now getting involved in some humanitarian work. The actor has associated himself with a fundraising drive that aids mid-day meal programmes in schools. Ranveer has also shot for an ad to create awareness about the initiative, and to persuade people to donate `750 per year towards the cause.
“I had been waiting for something like this for a while now. Fortunately, I have been able to get a certain amount of popularity. This gives me an opportunity to give back to society in some way. I have joined hands with Akshay Patra, an NGO that organises mid-day meals for kids in more than 10,000 schools across the country. The best part about this campaign is that it is for kids. I love children, and ultimately they are our future,” says Ranveer. Sharing eye-opening statistics, Ranveer reveals that about 2 million kids in India die before the age of 5 because of malnutrition.
“There are 60 million child labourers in the country. These kids don’t go to school, as they have to work to buy their meals. This just feels so wrong. The idea is that no kid should have to work for a meal, and should go to school. If people can give only `750, it can fund food for one child for an entire year,” he adds.
Ranveer has funded the meals of 10,000 kids for the entire year. “I feel I can do a lot of good with the kind of money that comes my way. When I get such opportunities, that is when I consider myself successful. I am happy that I am in a position to make someone’s life better,” he says.
