Adipurush: A Case Against Saif Ali Khan Filed For His 'Humane Ravan' Comment Despite Issuing An Apology
Saif Lands In Trouble For His 'Humane Ravan' Comment
Saif Ali Khan has landed in legal soup now for indicating in an interview that his upcoming film Adipurush, a adaptation of the Ramayan, will show Ravan with the humane side. Even though the actor was quick in issuing an apology soon after the interview went viral an advocate in Uttar Pradesh has gone ahead and filed a case against Saif and Adipurush filmmaker Om Raut.
Talking about his film Adipurush Saif had told Mumbai Mirror,“It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose.”
The comment however blew over on social media and the actor was accused of hurting religious sentiments. He soon after issued a statement apologizing and said, “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologize to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of righteousness and heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.”
The advocate from Jaunpur said that Saif’s statements reflected a negative portrayal of “faith” and “faith in Sanatan Dharma”. His petition also stated that apart ftom him the interview was also read by six others who were hurt by the comments. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate has set the date of 23 December for the hearing on this petition.
