Dream Girl Accused Of Plagiarism, Director Rubbishes Claims
So, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl act had just started titillating the nation. People were all ready and geared up to listen to the silky and sensuous voice of Pooja. But before that day could come to pass, thighs have taken a turn for the worse.
According to a report in a reputed daily, filmmaker Janak Toprani has cried foul play. According to the media report, the filmmaker Janak allegedly called out to the makers of “Dream Girl’ for plagiarism. The report states that Janak argued that his 2017 release, Call For Fun bears resemblance to Balaji Telefilms’ production.
The report further states that he said he approached Balaji with his script on two occasions but was turned down. The report quotes him as saying, “"After they let go of the project, I got a financier and [made] the movie last year." he says.
He further stated that Ekta Kapoor was not part of the discussion he had with the production.
Toprani further shared the details of the emails that he had sent to Balaji with the media publication. According to the report, the miffed writer-director further stated, “After the trailer released, we (him along with his friend who told him about the resemblance between the two films) took a week to consult a few lawyers. Then, I tried to call Nachiket Pantvaidya [CEO, Balaji] but he did not answer my call. If Dream Girl is similar to my film, I will file a legal case. I want credit as the writer and royalty rights.”
When the media outlet got in touch with the director of the film Raaj Shaandilya, he said, “The idea belongs to me and my co-writer since 2010. We have also registered it. If the concerned director's film was not commercially successful, why would anybody replicate his idea?”
Whatever it is, we all know that copying and stealing intellectual property has been there since eons and it will always be there. Unfortunately, this is again the case of the privileged and the underprivileged. People who are there at the controlling position have always used people with talent devoid of power. We hope this case doesn’t turn out to be the same. We at DEsimartini.com know this is just the beginning and many more truths will be unfurled in the days to come, so stay tuned with us for all the details on this one.
