Neena Gupta Joins As Akshay Kumar’s Mother In Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi

Actor Neena Gupta has been roped in to play Akshay Kumar’s mother in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama Sooryavanshi, which also stars Katrina Kaif. Claiming that the role isn’t a stereotypical one, Neena told Mumbai Mirror, “This is an interesting role because it isn’t the stereotypical mother who asks his son about food, marriage etc., but has several dimensions. There is a new temperament to the mother, and you will get to see a very different dynamic between Akshay, Katrina and me. This is a new, sweet and interesting space that I am looking to explore.”

“I am happy that more people will get to see my work. Rohit has made some amazing films which have been appreciated by the audience,” the actor added. Part of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, Sooryavanshi is slated for Eid 2020 release.

Neena has been receiving accolades for her performance in Ayushmann Khurrana’s Badhaai Ho that has impressed both critics and the audiences. Talking about the response she got for her role in the film, Neena had said, “The best compliment I received after Badhaai Ho was when Javed (Akhtar) saab called me and said, ‘I am not surprised, I am happy’.”

Neena played a middle-aged woman and mother to two grown-up sons who gets pregnant again in Badhaai Ho. Made at an estimated budget of Rs 29 crore, the film earned around Rs 221.44 worldwide.

Neena also has a thriller titled Gwalior where she will be seen with Sanjay Mishra, and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Panga in her kitty.
