Avengers Endgame Crosses The 200 Crore Mark
Avengers: Endgame has become the first Hollywood film to cross Rs 200 crore in just five days at the domestic box office. According to a report in Boxofficeindia.com, the film collected around Rs 27.50 crore on its first Tuesday, bringing its India total to Rs 217.50 crore.
Avengers Endgame is on the way to beat the highest Bollywood grosser of the year, Uri: The Surgical Strike which collected Rs 244 crore at the domestic box office. It will also surpass the collections of its prequel, Avengers: Infinity War that collected Rs 228 crore nett in India.
Sharing the new records the film will break on day five, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted a day before, “#AvengersEndgame is trending much, much better than #Hindi biggies... Will cross *Week 1* biz of #Dangal [₹ 197.54 cr], #TigerZindaHai [₹ 206.04 cr] and #Sanju [₹ 202.51 cr] on *Day 5*... All set to challenge *Week 1* biz of #Baahubali2 #Hindi [₹ 247 cr]. India biz.”
He had also updated the four day total of the film on Twitter, “#AvengersEndgame continues its incredible run... Is *beyond outstanding* on Day 4 [Mon]... Will cross ₹ 200 cr mark on Day 5 [Tue]... Fri 53.60 cr, Sat 52.20 cr, Sun 52.85 cr, Mon 31.05 cr. Total: ₹ 189.70 cr Nett BOC. India biz. Gross BOC: ₹ 225.83 cr.”
Chris Hemsworth, who stars as Thor in the film, has thanked fans across the world for making it a success. The actor took to his Instagram account on Tuesday morning to share a video, wherein he said: “Huge weekend at the box office. Historical moment. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ had the biggest opening of all time in cinematic history across the globe. Fast becoming the biggest film of all time and it is all thanks to you guys... None of this is possible without your support.
“Whether you love these characters from the comic books written many years ago or right through the last 10 years with these 22 films, your love have brought these characters to life and your responsible for its success.”
Soon after Avengers: Endgame scored an unprecedented opening day figure of Rs 53 crore in India, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who is widely known for his work internationally, had tweeted: “Bollywood needs to up its game. It has been taking audiences for granted for too long. And so opened the door to Hollywood. Now we have no choice but to compete with Hollywood. Be more internationally competitive. Songs/dances will get us just so far. Need to go beyond.”
Avengers: Endgame, directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Brie Larson. It is a direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and is the culmination of the previous 20-plus titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
