Bollywood Directors Who Should Have NEVER Come In Contact With VFX

As Bollywood lovers, we swell with pride every time Bollywood meets global standards of content. Groundbreaking stories coupled with cutting-edge technology has become the hallmark of global standards, and with films like Baahubali and 2.0, we are very much in the game.

However, it takes a very different set of talent to merge stories with good VFX and come up with a film that wows everyone. There are directors who do a splendid job otherwise, but things got a little out of hand the moment they tried to handle VFX. Here are a few Bollywood directors who should have never come in contact with VFX.

Abhishek Varman

Abhishek Varman did quite a decent job when he made his debut with 2 States. He handled the urban love-story with an optimum maturity and came up with a film that had its heart in the right place. However, one could literally see him unraveling in Kalank and things became downright embarrassing when the VFX in the film, especially the bullfight sequence, looked terribly fake and cheap.

Ashutosh Gowariker

He is the one to be credited for one of the most celebrated films of Bollywood ever, Lagaan. With films like Jodha Akbar, he proved that very few people can handle grandeur the way he can. However, his film Mohenjodaro, which tried to re-create the ancient Indus Valley civilization with VFX, things went terribly wrong. That plastic crocodile with which Hrithik fought is burnt into our retinas forever.

Anand L Rai

Rai can probably be counted in some of the best storytellers in Bollywood for this generation. He is responsible for some of the most amazing films like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhnaa. It is perhaps for the same reason that we could not believe that it was indeed him who directed Zero.  The moment he tried to shift his focus to VFX, he ended up making a film that is simply incomprehensible, if not totally ridiculous.

Anubhav Sinha

Let’s put it simply. He made Ra.One with VFX and Mulk without VFX. You see the drift, right!
