Bollywood Actresses Who Set The 2018 Box Office Ablaze With Their MindBlowing Performances
This year by far has been very productive for Bollywood. 2018 saw not just commercial potboilers, it also saw engaging and intriguing content and what’s more, the people and their intellect chose exactly the right films. This was a first of sorts. Because never did something of this sort happen earlier. Guys, here I am driving at the Box-office duds of this year, some of which had the biggest names of the industry. But fortunately, or unfortunately the audiences gave a thumbs down to them Aur Unki Doobti Naiyya ko Koi Na Paar Laga Saka (no one could save their sinking ship) - Thus it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that CONTENT in fact was the king!
Amongst the films that were produced this year, (two of which are still to see the light of day, namely – Zero and KGF) there were many that had women in some really strong characters and these films required strong performances from their leading ladies and Voila! – There was swashbuckling competition amongst the women in the film industry to prove their mettle against one another!
Here are names of the dazzling beauties of the Filmdom who proved no one could have pulled off their roles the way they did!
Deepika Padukone in Padmaavat – The film became the first woman-centric film to cross 300 crores at the box office. Deepika's performance in the film had received critical and audience acclaim. She looked beautiful in every frame and the pose and the grace she had while she played Padmavati on screen was a feat quite difficult to match!
Alia Bhatt in Raazi - By far the best film of this year was Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role of a vulnerable young girl who hasn’t yet completed her college and is faced up with the enormous task of being an informer for the Indian government. After the initial training the beautiful Kashmiri lass is married off to a Pakistani family who has direct nexus with the military. Alia gave a power-packed performance in the film and this film with her previous releases almost reinstated the fact that she is one of the best actresses we have in the industry today.
Tabu in AndhaDhun – Tabu needs no introduction. She is an actress par excellence. Give her any role and any backdrop, she moulds herself into the frame of mind required for the setting and the story almost with a chameleonesque agility! The depth and the gravity her presence lends to her character is nonpareil! This year, the film saw her in a sadistic cum funny cum unwavering cum nonchalant cum hard-skinned lady who plots the murder of her husband and then leaves no stone unturned to cover it up. Nothing can stop her besides death itself! Her performance made Andhadhun one of the most appreciated films of this year.
Rani Mukherjee in Hichki was another landmark film this year. It starred none other than the livewire Rani Mukherji in the lead role. The film told the story of a lady who suffered from Tourette’s syndrome but instead of let it bog her down, she chose to challenge her infirmity and go against it by becoming a teacher. When no one is ready to let her be one, she takes up yet another challenge of mentoring a bunch of hooligan students who are nothing but a blot on the reputation of the school. And no prizes for guessing, she takes up the responsibility and comes out passing the test with flying colours! Hichki was another film that had a strong female character and was also one of the most loved films of this year.
Shraddha Kapoor in Stree enthralled the audience in her commercially and critically acclaimed film 'Stree' where she roams around small-town Madhya Pradesh, abducting men in the dead of the night but only after getting their 'consent.'
Veere Di Wedding further went on to become one of the most successful women-led films of 2018. The film had Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles.
Down south, the biographical film Mahanati shone throwing light on the yesteryear legend Savitri, there was another very bold film by Anushka Sharma as a producer, the horror flick called Pari. With all of these films and even more, it can be safely said that women have shown their power at the Indian Box Office with strong and driven characters in 2018.
