Exclusive: Filmmaker Akshay Bardapurkar On Launching A Marathi OTT Platform: Preference Always Goes To Other Languages

Ab Ani CD was one of the most celebrated films this year. The Amitabh Bachchan starrer received a lot of acclaim from all and sundry and now Akshay Bardapurkar, the maker of the film is all set to launch his own OTT platform, called Planet Marathi! This would be India’s one and only platform that curates Marathi content, exclusively for the Marathi audience.

We got in touch with Akshay to know the details of it. Nowadays, especially after the lockdown, things have really been great for the OTT platform. With no new sources of entertainment people are resorting to the internet for their daily dose and the OTT platforms are churning out all the milk!

In times like these, where content is being consumed globally, an only Marathi specific OTT will be a bit of a bummer in the beginning, Akshay realises that but at the same time, he thinks the second-most spoken language in the country is still to get its due and it is high time.

Quipped he, “The decision to go only Marathi comes with the fact that firstly, there is no Marathi OTT anywhere in the world and secondly, we started this company way back in 2017 under the pretext of harnessing, cultivating, promoting and aggregating only Marathi content as there isn’t anyone who is doing that in the market, and thirdly, Marathi isn’t the choice of any other OTT's when someone goes and sells the content, preference always goes to other languages but Marathi. Hence it was important that we give its due to India’s second most spoken language."
