Shark Tank India: Why Namita Thapar’s ‘expertise nhi hai’ comment makes sense

Shark Tank India is among those reality TV shows which instantly struck the right chord with the audience. Other than unique business pitches and friendly banter between co-sharks, the first season of the show also featured several interesting one-liners by the judges, which are still popular among the netizens.

Namita Thapar , founder of pharma major Emcure, was one of the judges whose reasons to say no to a pitch that didn’t interest her became popular memes. Thapar was many times heard saying: “Issey main jyada relate nahi kar paa rahi hoon aur mera expertise isme nahi hai so for that reason I'm out.” Notably, Thapar has openly admitted having more interest towards pharma and healthcare deals.

While her sweet way to say no to a business pitch seemed genuine, it still managed to evoke laughter out of a big set of watchers. However, Thapar's statement can be taken as learning if we believe in the fact that working on something without any required knowledge could act against your favour. Her statement has significance as she proved that until you have the expertise in something you shouldn’t go for it. Hence, one can shamelessly say that he or she has no expertise until he/she become an expert on it.

Meanwhile, Thapar has shared several times on the show that she prefers to be an active investor in a business rather than lying low as a passive one. She has been several times heard saying, “Ye business me main jyada aapki help nahi kar paungi, so for that reason I'm out.”

Most recently, Namita has invested in the startup of farmer Pandurang Taware. Taking to Instagram, she posted a photo with Pandurang and revealed that she regretted not investing in Pandurang and Kamlesh Ghumare, also called Jugaadu Kamlesh, on the show.
