Shark Tank India: When Ashneer Grover called flower business owners ‘bewakoof’; Aman Gupta couldn’t agree more
Nidhi Gupta and Anuj Bhagat, who met through shark Anupam Mittal’s Shaadi.com, left empty handed after Ashneer Grover and Aman Gupta said ‘no’ to their pitch along with the other potential investors.
Co-founder and former managing director of BharatPe, Ashneer Grover is undoubtedly one of the most popular shark, a potential investor, on the reality show Shark Tank India . Audiences love how he never minces his words and speaks what’s on his mind. He does not believe in sugar-coating his opinion about entrepreneurs and their business ideas. Well, during one episode in season 1, Grover had called the owners of a flower business named Shades of Spring ‘bewakoof’, when they asked for Rs 3 crores for 1% equity.

The flagship product of Shades of Spring, founded by Nidhi Gupta and Anuj Bhagat, is the DIY flower subscription box which gives the customers farm fresh flowers within 48-72 hours of harvest. While their business did impress the sharks, the offer put forward left the investors shaking their heads. Grover felt that valuation of 300 crores on a revenue of 9 crores made no sense. He stated that while he respected their business, they looked ‘bewakoof’ asking for the particular amount.
Aman Gupta, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of boAt, stated that the problem of Shades of Spring founders is that they think the sharks are fools. He went on to add that he will be a fool to give them his money. There was a light moment in the episode when Nidhi and Anuj revealed that they met through Shaadi.com, founded by shark Anupam Mittal . But in the end the two entrepreneurs left empty handed, with no deal.
