Shark Tank India: Namita Thapar, Aman Gupta on pleading with makers for wardrobe changes - 'Humse paise lelo par humare kapde badal do'
Shark Tank India judges Namita Thapar and Aman Gupta revealed how not getting a wardrobe change for days while shooting the show became the bane of their existance during season 1.
Shark Tank India introduced the ‘sharks’ of the show to a new side of fame as they became overnight sensations on social media after the show. Namita Thapar and Amit Gupta during an interview had shared how their journey has been from being successful entrepreneurs to stepping into the limelight through this reality show and they had some fun anecdotes to share about the shoot of the show.
Namita and Aman revealed how they were particularly bothered by the fact that they had to wear the same wardrobe for few days of shoot for continuity reasons. It was during a live chat with Rohan Joshi , Tanmay Bhat and Sahil Shah that the two ‘sharks’ revealed how they even offered to spend their own money for a change of wardrobe but were not allowed to do so due to the international format standards. Shark Tank India is based on the same format as entrepreneurial show Shark Tank America.
Aman said on being asked about wardrobe, “We used to wear the same clothes for like a few days and it was for a reason, so that they could mix any of these shoots and use them anywhere.” He further explained how a pitch from the first day could find it way in a later episode during which Namita interrupted him and asked him to ‘stop being nice’ about this.
He then confessed, “This was the biggest regret [wardrobe] and we always used to go to the creative guys and director and say ‘ Boss humare kapde badal do. Humse paise lelo par humare kapde badal do. Hum khud bore hog aye ye pehen pehen ke’.”
On the subject Namita added, “The tragedy is that they can blame everything on the global franchise. Anytime we go and say ‘hey, we’ll pay for it, please aur kapde do,’ they say, ‘Nahi, but this is global franchise SOP’.”
She also recalled desperately asking them if they could do something to about the whole wardrobe situation. “I am like I am fashionista. I love clothes, I have one thing in life, I love clothes.” In a similar vain Aman added that if he sees a carrot coloured suit or anything after the show he simply runs away.
Namita Thapar is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals while Aman Gupta is the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of BoAt electronics. They served as judges on Shark Tank India with entrepreneurs, Vineeta Singh, Ashneer Grover , Anupam Mittal and Peyush Bansal.
