Anupamaa: Rupali Ganguly recalls her real wedding being ‘hilarious and super quick’ amidst her reel wedding
As Anu and Anuj tie the knot on Anupamaa, actress Rupali Ganguly takes a trip down memory lane and remembers her real-life wedding with husband Ashwin K Verma.
Actress Rupali Ganguly has been winning hearts with her television drama series Anupamaa since the last two years. Her character is loved by the audience while her on-screen chemistry with co-star Gaurav Khanna aka Anuj is a highlight of the show, along with a gripping story-line. Currently the team is making headlines as the lead pair finally ties the knot in the ongoing track. The lavish wedding has taken social media by storm and viewers can’t seem to get enough! Well, Anupamaa’s wedding is as grand as any other TV wedding. But Rupali’s real-life ceremony was quite different.
In a recent chat with ETimes, the actress recalled, “Ashwin and I had decided to get married just two days in advance and I had announced it to my parents. My brother (Bollywood choreographer Vijay (Ganguly) was taking a flight out of Mumbai and I had to ask him to stay back. We fixed a date and I was hoping that Ashwin would show up on time. We were planning to do a registered wedding at my home in Worli but then my father (film director Anil Ganguly ) decided to do kanyadaan and we called a pandit. I had asked a designer friend to get a blue blouse with my red sari and we waited for the pandit who did not reach till late evening.”
But then there was a twist! Her husband Ashwin K Verma entered a ‘no entry’ lane and had to pay a fine. By the time he reached her flat from the ground floor, the pandit had started chanting mantras. There were 99 people at their wedding and the groom wore a shirt and jeans. The ceremony was wrapped up in just a few minutes! Rupali shared, “We threw a wedding after-party after we got married on the same day in Versova at an eater later for our friends. Ours was a fast, hilarious and a super quick wedding.”
The actress further stated that rather than spending money on a big fat wedding, one should share the happiness by helping those less privileged. A noble thought indeed! While Rupali and Ashwin had a simple wedding, the day became special because of the love they have for each other in their heart! Now that’s a real fairytale.
