The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth
The Netflix documentary, The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth was finally released on the OTT streaming platform on February 29, 2024. It was released after much controversy since the CBI (Central Bureau Of Investigation) was seeking a stay on its airing. However, the Bombay High Court dismissed this plea. Here is everything you need to know about the Sheena Bora murder case which forms the main crux of the documentary.
Talking about the same, the Mumbai Police arrested a man named Shyamwar Rai on August 21, 2015, for alleged illegal possession of a firearm. During his interrogation, he revealed that he was involved in the murder of Sheena Bora which happened three years ago. Rai was the driver of the then-media moguls Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani Mukerjea. Rai shockingly revealed that he along with Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna murdered the 25-year-old Sheena. Sheena was revealed to be Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship. The murder took place in Bandra after which the body was disposed of in Raigad.
Indrani and Sanjeev were arrested by the police and by December, Peter was taken into custody too when the case was handed over to the CBI. Mukerjea kept on saying that her daughter was alive and was currently living somewhere abroad. Indrani, Khanna, and Peter are currently on trial in a Mumbai special court while Shyamwar was made a prosecution witness in the case. The four accused are currently on bail.
CBI has examined 89 out of 237 witnesses in the case. The CBI approached the trial court earlier this month seeking a plea on the stay in the release of the documentary series. But it was notified that only the High Court or the Supreme Court will have the final say on the matter. However, the Bombay High Court dismissed the plea stating that the show does not show anything that goes against the prosecution.
