Sushmita Sen on Aarya 3: ‘I have a dirty feeling we’re coming with season three’
At the end of Aarya 2, Sushmita Sen’s character introduced us to a new villain in her story.
After leaving us in awe with her tigress avatar in Ram Madhvani’s Aarya, Sushmita Sen recently returned to our screens with the much anticipated season 2 of the crime-thriller drama series. While in season 1 we saw a brief glimpse of Aarya joining gangs, by the end of season 2 she became a don, or as she likes to call it-- a working mother. Sushmita’s performance was spectacular and once again made us realize that she is one of the most versatile performers of the Hindi film industry. The dynamic season 2 also left us eagerly waiting to know what will happen in Aarya’s life next!
Well in a chat with Mid Day, Sushmita expressed her happiness about the audience accepting a ‘woman-led story’ with open arms. She was quoted saying, “The show is inspired by Penoza [the Dutch series], or [if you see the similarities], the role is a female version of Michael Corleone from The Godfather. So, it’s tough for Indian audiences to suddenly accept not just a strong female lead, but to see her being everything that we consider masculine. Thanks to Ram, Aarya is still as feminine as she can be, because she is a mother first.”
When asked about Aarya 3, the actress replied, “Penoza had five seasons. So, we have the basic arc of five seasons. Only Ram can answer this question, but I have a dirty feeling we’re coming with season three.” We can’t help but hope that Sushmita’s feeling is correct! Madhvani had also hinted at a third season in a recent interview, but had maintained that it depends on the reaction received by Aarya 2. Well, guess we’ll just have to wait and watch.
