Koffee With Karan 8: Sunny Deol reveals calling up Akshay Kumar to avert Gadar 2 clash with OMG 2
As Sunny Deol was making his comeback to the screens with Gadar 2 after many years, he had qualms about its box office success. He told Karan Johar that he didn’t want anyone to come along with his movie.
In the latest episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, Gadar 2 star Sunny Deol graced the couch with his brother Bobby Deol. The conversations between host Karan Johar and the sibling duo reeled around Gadar 2 box office success, heartwarming messages from Deol’s family, Bobby’s out-of-work phase, Dharmendra’s kiss in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and many more topics. During the chat, Sunny revealed that he was hurt by the box office clash of Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 with his movie Gadar 2.
As Sunny was making his comeback to the screens with Gadar 2 after many years, he had qualms about its box office success. He told Karan that he didn’t want anyone to come along with his movie. He went on to add that he called up Akshay and requested him to avert the clash. “I asked him, ‘please don’t do it if it’s in your hands,’ but he said no, the studio, and all that… and they said that anyway, two films can release, so I said, okay, go ahead. I can just request; I can’t do anything more than that,” he told Karan.
For those unaware, both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 released on August 11, 2023. Despite the box office clash, the films managed to stay afloat, shattering the records at the ticket window. While Sunny’s film crossed Rs 500 crore mark, Akshay starrer minted around Rs 140 crore.
Besides this, Sunny also made a surprising revelation about his fetish for Teddy Bears. His son Karan Deol revealed in his video message during the show that Sunny possesses a huge collection of Teddy Bears. Following this, Sunny added that he picks up teddy bears which are cute and unique. He also said that he keeps a pocket-sized one on himself sometimes. When Karan asked why such a fixation with Teddy Bears, he said that it is comforting to cuddle with them.
Meanwhile, workwise, Sunny Deol has signed up for his next project, Lahore 1947. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, the film is said to be a partition drama, which will go on floors on March 1 in Mumbai.
