Koffee With Karan 8: Aditya Roy Kapur says Kartik Aaryan is 'perfect person' to take forward Aashiqui franchise
The host Karan Johar asked Aditya Roy Kapur about how he feels not being part of the Aashiqui 3 and replaced by Kartik Aaryan. To which he replied, “I think he’s the perfect person to take the baton forward."
In Aditya Roy Kapur’s filmography, his portrayal of Rahul Jayakar in Aashiqui 2 stands out and remains etched in fans’ hearts. The hit franchise is headed for its third installment, replacing him with Kartik Aaryan. In his latest appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 8, Aditya reacted to Kartik stepping into his most-loved character.
The host Karan Johar asked Aditya about how he feels not being part of the Aashiqui 3 and replaced by Kartik. To which he replied, “I think he’s the perfect person to take the baton forward.There was no chance I could be in this because, in the second part, my character went for a long swim, from which he is not returning. I think it’s great. I died; where will I come back now? My spirit will come back.” Aditya further joked about returning as spirit in the film. And Karan laughed adding that it would be funny to watch him a ghost haunting Kartik for taking over his popular role.
For the unversed, Aashiqui 2 features Aditya alongside Shraddha Kapoor as the leading lady. Directed by Mohit Suri, the 2013 romantic musical drama centers on a turbulent romantic relationship between a failing singer, Rahul Jaykar, and his protege, aspiring Aarohi Keshav Shirke.The film turned out to be a huge hit, grossing Rs 109 crore upon release.
Last year, Kartik announced the news of Aashiqui 3 on his Instagram handle. He shared a announcement video with the caption that read, “Ab Tere Bin Ji Lenge Hum Zeher Zindagi Ka Pi Lenge Hum 🎶 #Aashiqui3 ❤️This one is going to be Heart-wrenching !! My First with Basu Da.” Directed by Anurag Basu and backed by Bhushan Kumar under his banner T-series.
Meanwhile, Aditya was last seen in Disney+Hotstar series The Night Manager alongside Anil Kapoor. Up next, he will be seen in Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino co-starring Sara Ali Khan.
