Heeramandi: Fardeen Khan roped in to play a pivotal part in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus

Sanjay Leela Bhansali ’s magnum opus Heeramandi had been in the buzz right since its inception. While there have been many names coming up when it comes to the casting for the series, now one hears that actor Fardeen Khan has been roped in to play a pivotal part in the show. Yes, you heard that right! The show will mark Fardeen’s glorious comeback to showbiz and will also mark his debut in the digital sphere.

According to a news report in Bollywood Hungama , Fardeen Khan will be essaying an important role in Heeramandi and has already shot for a few scenes in the series. The actor will now be joining the team of the movie in the next schedule. For the unversed, the show is based on the lives of courtesans in pre-independence India.

There have also been several reports which have speculated that legendary actress Rekha will be having a crucial role in the movie. Apart from her, many names like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Huma Qureshi have been floating in to be a part of the movie. The same publication quoted a source to reveal, “Rekha has been keen to work with Bhansali for the longest time and he too is desirous of tapping into 'the Rekha mystique’. But somehow, the two have never been able to work together before. Bhansali wanted Rekha for a special role in Heeramandi from the beginning. But then, it seemed that this classic partnership was again jinxed.”

Earlier in a statement, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had given some insight on Heeramandi. The filmmaker had said, “Heeramandi was something that my friend Moin Baig got to me as a 14 page story, 14 years ago and then finally when we presented it to Netflix , they loved it and they thought it had great potential to make a mega-series. It is very ambitious, it’s very big and vast. It tells you the story of courtesans. They kept music, poetry and dance and the art of living. It shows the politics within the brothels and how to emerge as the winner. It is a difficult one but I hope we come across with flying colours this time.”
