From Shahid Kapoor’s Farzi, and Aditya Roy Kapur’s The Night Manager to Vijay Varma’s Dahaad, the OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+Hotstar have provided plenty of binge-worthy series high on drama, suspense and thrill in the year 2023. Here we have detailed the most popular series (as per IMDB) that illuminated the OTT platform this year.

Farzi: Shahid Kapoor’s digital debut series Farzi follows a small-time artist who gets mired in a high-stakes world of counterfeiting. The series is an intriguing watch which has plenty of goosebumps moments. Created by Raj & DK, the show has a talented ensemble cast including Kay Kay Menon, Vijay Sethupathi and Raashi Khanna.

Guns & Gulaabs: This black comedy thriller is a well-crafted whimsical gangster comedy set in the 90s in the fictional town of Gulaabgunj. Created by Raj and DK, the series follows an honest police officer and a mechanic whose simple lives take a dark turn when they get dragged into a gang war over an unprecedented opium deal. The series features Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, Satish Kaushik and Adarsh Gourav in pivotal roles.

The Night Manager: Created by Sandeep Modi, the nail-biting series is a remake of the British television series based on John Le Carre's novel of the same name. Headlined by Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor, the series revolves around a night manager(Aditya) who infiltrates a criminal empire run by Shelly (Anil) and exposes his illegal business. The show also has Sobhita Dhulipala and Tillotama Shome in pivotal roles.

Kohrra: This suspenseful series definitely deserves to be on the popular list because of its intriguing plotline, tight screenplay and outstanding performance. Headlined by Barun Sobti and Suvinder Vicky, the series follows two police officers who uncover shocking secrets while solving the murder case of a soon-to-be-married man. The investigation begins to affect their personal lives and threatens to ruin the case.

Asur 2: The crime thriller featuring Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti returned with the second season, engaging the viewers into more intense drama. The season, which focuses on the return of the serial killer who creates more chaos in the city, holds you till the end with twists and turns that unfold in every episode. Directed by Oni Sen, the cast also includes Ridhi Dogra, Anupriya Goenka, Amey Wagh and Abhishek Chauhan.

Rana Naidu: The action crime thriller headlined by Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh delves into the life of Rana Naidu, a man known for solving and helping celebrities from serious problems. Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo: The crime series saw veteran actress Dimple Kapadia making her digital debut as Savitra aka Rani Baa, a ruthless matriarch running a drug cartel with the help of her daughter, and daughters-in-law. The series also features Radhika Madan, Naseeruddin Shah, Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar, Monica Dogra and Angira Dhar in key roles.

Scoop: Created by ace filmmaker Hansal Mehta, Scoop is an adaptation of crime journalist Jigna Vora’s memoir Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison. The captivating drama features Karishma Tanna as a crime reporter who is accused and arrested for the murder of a fellow journalist played by Prosenjit Chatterjee. Harman Baweja made his comeback with this most-talked about series.

Jubilee: Set in the early ’50s, Jubilee follows a group of characters navigating through their dreams, passion, and ambition to make a mark in the film industry. Created by Vikramaditya Motwane, the period drama stars Sidhant Gupta, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Aparshakti Khurrana in prominent roles. The series received unanimous love from both audiences and critics.
