Updated : February 09, 2022 04:49 PM ISTThe Academy announced this year's list of Nominees and despite the buzz, Jai Bhim failed to make the cut, and fans were quick to express their disappointment.
Jai Bhim was one of the most popular and critically successful movies of 2021 in India. The tense courtroom drama which is based on true events focused on the illegal arrest and disappearance of a young tribal man.
Directed by T. J. Gnanavel, A scene from Jai Bhim was shown on The Academy's official Youtube channel in which the director explains the making of the movie.
This also meant that the movie had qualified for the Best Foreign Film category of the Academy Awards 2022 but unfortunately when the list of nominees was announced on Tuesday Jai Bhim did not make the cut.
The Best Foreign Film category of the Oscars is one of the toughest categories to crack as it includes entries from around the world. In fact, only three Indian movies have ever been nominated to the category which includes Mother India in 1957, Salaam Bombay! in 1988, and Lagaan in 2001.
Only five movies were nominated in the Best Foreign Film category this year they include ‘Drive My Car’ (Japan), ‘Flee’ (Denmark), ‘The Hand of God’ (Italy), ‘Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom’ (Bhutan) and ‘The Worst Person in the World’ (Norway).
Of course, fans of Jai Bhim were quick to express their disappointment on social media not seeing the name of the Suriya led film among the nominees. Checkout some of the reactions from fans -

While it maybe out of the Oscar race, Jai Bhim is still a good movie and if you haven't seen it you can watch it on Amazon Prime
