Ekta Kapoor’s unique reality show Lock Upp is all set to premiere on a grand scale on February 27, Sunday. This one of a kind reality show is being hosted by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut who is making her debut in the format and joins the league of star hosts like Ranveer Singh , Salman Khan , Shah Rukh Khan , Amitabh Bachchan who have hosted popular reality shows on TV before.
Lock Upp is a 24x7 reality show which will air on ALT Balaji and MX Player for free starting Sunday. The show will see 16 controversial contestants who will be locked in for 72 days and will be eliminated by a process of audience voting. Their survival in Lock Upp depends on their performance in tasks and to spice up the show some very interesting names have been brought in as contestants.
Confirmed contestants for Lock Upp
Many celebrity names have been speculated including those of Shehnaaz Gill , Vikas Gupta, Priyank Sharma, Miesha Iyer, Ieshaan Shehgaal, Hina Khan , Shweta Tiwari , Divyanka Tripathi , Manav Gogil, Surbhi Jyoti, Urfi Javed , Aditya Singh Rajput, Mallika Sherawat, Anushka Sen, Avneet Kaur, Chetan Bhagat and Harsh Beniwal for Lock Upp.
However, the celebrities who have been confirmed so far by the makers of Lock Upp include –
Nisha Rawal – The popular TV actress who was in the news last year for her controversial separation from husband and actor Karan Mehra has been confirmed by makers as the first celebrity contestant for Lock Upp. The actress has been a popular figure on TV with shows like Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki and Kesar.
Nisha has previously participated in reality shows like Nach Balaiye 5 and Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati.
Munawar Faruqui – The stand-up comic, who was in the news for his many cancelled shows and arrest in Madhya Pradesh ahead of his act, has been confirmed as the second contestant of Lock-Upp. Munawar’s arrest last year had sparked wide-spread criticism on social media. It is also to be noted that the comedian has often taken a stand against Kangana Ranaut on social media and their coming face-to-face on the show could certainly amount to some controversial moments.
Poonam Pandey –The actress who made her debuted in Bollywood with the film Nasha in 2013 and has been in the media spotlight for rather controversial reasons since, has also been confirmed for Kangana Ranaut hosted Lock-Upp.
Poonam who runs her own app where she posts rather erotic content, was in the news last year for having her named dragged in a controversy after the police busted an adult film racket in Mumbai. She was also in the news for her separation with husband Sam Bombay after she complained of domestic abuse.
Babita Phogat - Wrestler and politician Babita Phogat has been confirmed as the fourth participant of Kangana Ranaut's show. In the past few years, several controversial comments made by Babita have made headlines. Her tweets against the Tablighi Jamaat at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 became a major controversy and so did her comments against former actress Zaira Wasim .
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist will now be seen fighting to survive the challenges of Kangana Ranaut's lock-up.
Karanvir Bohra : The popular TV actor who has previously worked with Lock Upp creator Ekta Kapoor on some of her daily soaps has now been confirmed as the fifth contestant in Kangana Ranaut's jail. A promo featuring the actor has now been released showing him behind bars.
The controversy stirred in the actor's name last year when after actor Siddharth Shukla's sudden demise Karanvir was mocked by a paparazzi for not arriving at the late actor's home in a luxury car. Karanvir did not take the comment sitting down and clapped back at the insensitivity of the photographer for being concerned with which car he drove when someone has died.
