In the latest episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, Karan Johar had an intense conversation with Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty about their struggles, nepotism, the new generation of actors and many other topics. Karan began by asking about their initial journey to success, and the filmmaker-actor duo spoke at length about their respective fathers and their footing in the film industry. Further, they reminisced about the old days when actors and filmmakers were united and shared friendly relations which they no longer see prevalent in the film industry.
Ajay gave his two cents on nepotism while talking about the struggles the generations went through in the industry. “Today you go on social media and read so many things, like nepotism. But people don’t realise that generations have worked and worked very hard to reach here. It is not an easy story that like ‘iska beta hai..’” Karan mentioned his late dad and said that had he been alive and heard that his son is called the flagbearer of nepotism, he would have laughed.

Further, Karan asked Ajay and Rohit about their opinions on the new generation of actors. Rohit said, “Too much insecurities and validation they need from social media from people they don’t know. I think they are very insecure. Maybe because they have their own thing in this generation.” Karan then asked, “Do you think they overthink?” and both of them agreed that they overthink. Further, Karan asked why fewer multi-starrer films are being made, and why they do not have the security to do two or three hero films. To which Ajay added, “They don’t have the security of doing solos also, they take three years to decide if they have to do this or that.”

Later, Ajay also reacted to ongoing chatter around paid PR. He said, “It doesn’t work actually, it’s just a mirage for you to be happy, you sit in your room or office and just read. Otherwise audience will decide after the first or second show that what’s gonna happen then nothing can change.” Rohit then cited the example of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and explained how it became a hit when nobody had faith in the film.
