Koffee With Karan 8: 5 best moments of Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan on the couch with Karan Johar

Karan Johar’s ex-students Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan graced the couch in the latest episode of Koffee With Karan season 8. The actors talked about their marriages, wives, their My Name is Khan days, and their bond with Student Of The Year co-star Alia Bhatt. Here we have elaborated on five best moments that made the episode a fun watch.

Alia's video message and Sidharth-Varun not wanting her in Student Of The Year

During the episode, Karan Johar began talking about Alia Bhatt, and Varun interrupted saying that “This season also you are going to talk about Alia., nothing has changed.” Next, Karan played a video message from Alia wherein she shared some little-known facts about her co-stars. She revealed that her pet pooch Edward was a gift from her ex-boyfriend Sidharth Malhotra. She went on to add, “Sid is actually a really good singer. He is a very healthy person, so he doesn't party at all, but he is the best person to get a party started, so this is the inherent Punjabi in him.” About Varun, she said, "He calls banana banena. Number two is pretty sweet actually. Whenever he gets a call from a family member, or like an aunt, he answers the phone with Pairi pauna. I mean, I don't think it's a fact that is lesser known but it's a fact that every knows that he is very competitive, especially with me."

Later, Karan revealed that during the casting of Student Of The Year, Sidharth and Varun showed aversion for Alia Bhatt. He disclosed that both the actors said that she is too young, and that they were sending pictures of other girls for her role.

My Name Is Khan anecdotes

Karan recalled the time when Sidharth and Varun were assisting him on the sets of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan. He shared an anecdote that Varun sold Shah Rukh Khan's pictures to fans in Los Angeles. "I will never forget the day we were shooting at UCLA in Los Angeles, where there was crowd of people hounding Shah Rukh Khan but they had no access to Shah Rukh Khan so guess who was giving photographs to the fans on side," he said. Varun added that Sidharth also sold the pictures to fans. Karan also spoke about the ‘steamy affairs’ that the actors had with members of the costume department back then. "You (Varun) were engaged with an Indian girl and you were (Sidharth) engaged with a foreign girl in the department. Engaged, I'm using a very polite word to say what you were doing. The next morning, Karan Malhotra comes to me and says, can we send two people home? Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra because they're distracting the costume department," the filmmaker said. Meanwhile, Varun called Karan ‘Ghar tode’ taking cue from his dad David Dhawan’s film’s character.

Guneet Monga or ‘Mongia’?

During the conversation, Sidharth and Varun asked Karan if he is friends with any of the producers in the industry. Following this, Karan began name-dropping Aditya Chopra, Dinesh Vijan, Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, Ronnie Screvwala and others. Varun then wondered if he was friend with Guneet Mongia, to which Karan laughed and correct him saying, “Guneet Mongia is not her name.” Varun then got embarrassed and said, “Guneet Monga, sorry sorry.” Sidharth suggested that he should use google first and then name drop. Karan then said, “She has won an Academy Award.” Varun then explained, “I didn’t know, because there is Nayan Mongia(former cricketer), so…,”he laughed.

The Rat Race game

The Rat race game is the highlight of the 46-minute episode. Both Varun and Sidharth were asked to name three things in 6 seconds on the go. There were several fun questions that Karan asked the duo and the answers were fun to watch. When Karan asked Varun to name three places he takes his shirt off, Varun answers, “Everywhere, and then says home, bathroom, dressing room.” Varun then named three things one shouldn’t do in theatres, “Don’t chat, don’t use phone, and don’t urinate.” The urinate thing took Karan and Sidharth by surprise and they couldn’t stop laughing. Then Sidharth instilled laughter with his answer to the question about three ways to seduce him. He said, “good food, great fragrance” To which Karan exclaimed, “you want to date a chef who puts out nice cologne.” He further added, “If I give you dal chawal in your mouth, will you get turned on?” and Varun was in splits imagining the scene. Karan then asked Varun to name three activities he and his wife do together, and he replied, “Boating, drinking tea.” And Sidharth remarked, “Kaun se film hai tu.” The trio laughed out loud throughout the game.

Sidharth Malhotra’s rapid fire

During the Rapid-Fire round, it was Sidharth’s integrity and cute moments with his wife Kiara Advani that won him the velvety green gift hamper. When Karan asked him about the moment he missed from his single life, Sidharth said, “Secretly meeting Kiara”. Both Varun and Karan were in awe of his answer. There were several other moments from the show that won hearts but the above mentioned were the major highlights.
