Ace filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s upcoming series Scoop marks actor Harman Baweja’s comeback on screen after eight long years. The actor will be seen in the role of a police officer in the upcoming Netflix crime drama. The filmmaker recently revealed that he had to convince him to do the role.
The Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story filmmaker said that he asked casting director Mukesh Chhabra to propose Harman’s name to Netflix without telling him that he know about it. And Netflix approved of him for the role. He then lured Harman out of his acting sabbatical by blackmailing him emotionally. “He had sort of given up on his acting career and he was producing and doing quite well as a producer and I had to convince him that ‘Please, do this.’ I had to finally emotionally blackmail him. I’ve known him since he was 18-19 years old. I finally told him that you have to do this for me.”
Further, he added, “You are doing this for me and you’re doing this for your father. He will be proud when he sees this. He asked me, ‘Are you sure? It’s a small role.’ I told him, ‘It’s not a small part and your father will be very proud when he sees you on screen, you will be seen as an actor,'" the filmmaker told News18.
Harman also recently opened up about his acting sabbatical. He mentioned that the criticism he was subjected to post his launch did not go down well with him, hence he chose to quit. Meanwhile, besides him, the Scoop stars Karishma Tanna, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Shikha Talsania, and Prosenjit Chatterjee. The series, based on the book, Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison by Jigna Vora, is slated to stream on June 2
