Follow Kar Lo Yaar Review- Uorfi Javed’s invitation to inner circle of her life that’s no less than real life Bigg Boss show!
    Updated : August 23, 2024 12:27 AM IST

There was a time when romantic films were the call of the day, then came action thrillers, murder mysteries and so on. Looking at things around us of late, it looks like the flavour of the season is ‘docu-series’. Just a few days ago, there was the ultimate classic Angry Young Men, which was released about the illustrious lives of two illustrious men Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. This time round, it’s a docu-series titled ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’, which has been made on the social media sensation Uorfi Javed!

The 9-part series is all about … you know who… Uorfi, Uorfi and Uorfi! The series starts off with the adulations, love and the craze that Uorfi Javed commands wherever she goes, which is followed by her epic statement, ‘Either I will die or will make the world go crazy’ and her honest confession ‘I am what I am because of the paps. The day the pap culture goes off, Uorfi Javed too will fade away!” As an icing on the cake, she declares, “I love being stare at!”.

This is then, followed by the introduction of people who matter the most to her and around whom her world revolves. There are also ‘special appearances’ by a bunch of people like Munawar Faruqui, ace designer Sandeep Khosla, stellar make up master Mickey Contractor and a few others!

The ones who feature from her daily life include Sahel, Shraddha Mohanty (her agent cum manager), Ruslaan (her junior business manager), her sisters Uruusa, Asfi, Dolly, brother Sameer, mother Zakia and… Kashaf (her cat!). Besides her day-to-day life’s routine, Uorfi also takes you through the journey of her beliefs in astrology, numerology, negative energies etc… (maybe that explains why she added an ‘O’ in her name!)!

The series ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’ gives you an insightful insight about what Uorfi Javed is all about in real life. The term which aptly describe the series is ‘unfiltered’! The series shows her personality traits like her commitment towards a brand (despite her agency messing it up), she wanting to master the art of confidence from Orry, addressing her inability to crack impromptu jokes like Munawar Faruqui, her going to the plastic surgeon for ‘body realignment’.

Additionally, the series is also about her confessing that she ran away from home to make a career in Mumbai and the fact that her anger issues stem from her childhood trauma seeing her father mistreating her mother.

At the same time, the series also mirrors her constant attempts to make hay (read ‘money’) while the sun is still shining! As for the ‘locations’ of the entire shoot, the full series oscillates between the ‘houses’ of Uorfi Javed and her sisters, the agency office, their Lucknow and a few other locales and events!

Since this was a docu-series, one cannot really write or talk about the ‘performances’, except for the fact that, Follow Kar Lo Yaar acts as a much-needed platter for Uorfi to validate her existence in the entertainment world and also to amplify her as an upcoming entrepreneur who is ‘ready to work 27 hours a day and also wait for a lifetime for her brand’s success’!

Sandeep Kukreja (who is known for his work in talent-based reality shows like Supermodel Of The Year and also L'Oréal Professionnel Paris Indian Hairdressing Awards’) takes charge of the director’s chair with Follow Kar Lo Yaar. He does a commendable job at that.

Kudos to the series’ editors (Naushad Warsi, Sunil Kumar, Shantanu Kumar, Uday Sudhakar Shetty, Manbir Jasrotia, Vikram Singh, Keyur Shah and Santosh Singh), who have really have put in their hard work.

But, on the hindsight, the length / duration of the full series seems to play the villain here. A whole 9-part series really gets a bit too taxing for a show that showcases and follows the format of ‘A day in the life of’! Chopping a bunch of episodes could have made the show crisper and more relatable.

While the cinematography (Magesh Madhan) could have been more on-point, the music composer (Harsh Upadhyay) delivers where and when it mattered the most!

All in all, Uorfi Javed’s Follow Kar Lo Yaar will surely act as a ready reckoner for someone who wants to author her biography or is planning to make a biopic on her. But what remains to be seen is that, will the audiences who (mostly) criticise her for her choice of dress, would like to see her life story (that took in nine parts!). What could (also) put off the audiences are the free-flowing cuss words which have been used in the series.

At the same time, people who appreciate Uorfi Javed for living life on her terms will surely find Follow Kar Lo Yaar as yet another feather in Uorfi’s cap of achievements. Had the series been lesser than nine-episodes, Follow Kar Lo Yaar could have just qualified for a ‘must-mast’ show that surely demands a one-time watch (at least!).
