Gone are the days when the term 'crimes' was associated with weapons like guns, knives, robbery and likes. But, with the advancement of technology, the crime and the criminals have spreaded their territory into the personal and confidential data of the common man in the form of cybercrime. With each passing day, the reports about cybercrime are only on the rise. This week’s release Fateh starring Sonu Sood addresses this issue. Will Sonu Sood’s Fateh be successful in bringing the criminals to light and act as a ready reckoner to everyone, lets analyse.
The film starts off in a Punjab pind (village) where an ex-special ops officer Fateh Singh (Sonu Sood) lives and is everyone’s ‘aankhon kaa taara’. What follows eventually is a cyber racket that is about to engulf the village. The resultant of the same lands up in a villager commits suicide as he is unable to bear the loss.
This is then followed by the mysterious disappearance of Nimrit Kaur (Shiv Jyoti Rajput), who runs a mobile shop in the village. Post this, Fateh sets on his mission to search for Nimrit, with the help of Khushi (Jacqueline Fernandez), who happens to be a gang leader of a group containing ethical hackers.
Eventually, both Fateh and Khushi land up discovering that the world of cybercrime is more than what meets the eye. Will Fateh and Khushi manage to achieve ‘Fateh’ in their mission of unearthing the cybercrimes and cybercriminals is what forms the rest of the film.
Being his directorial debut, Sonu Sood makes no mistake in hitting the right chords. Barring a handful of scenes here and there, the film hits the bull’s eye and how! Bollywood… be ready for a director named Sonu Sood, who seems to have cracked the formula for making a masala entertainer that will appeal to both, the masses as well as the classes. But, his acid test as a director will actually begin with his second film. As of now, let's just stick to ‘Fateh’.
What works in the film’s favour (big time) is the fact that the film touches upon a topic that is definitely a pain-point to many. Cybercrime and cyber criminals see no gender, class and status. It targets anyone and everyone. That’s why a film like Fateh, that highlights the burning issue of cybercrimes. Besides scoring brownie points as a director, Sonu Sood also scores as the writer of the film.
As for the performances, the film belongs to … no prizes for guessing… Sonu Sood! He has given the film his all. Right from the first scene, till the end credits, this man owns the film and how! The film’s leading lady Jacqueline Fernandez, does what is expected of her. Besides looking stunning, she offers immense support to Sonu’s character in the film.
Besides that, there are veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz, Dibyendu Bhattacharya who lend their tried and tested expertise in carrying the film forward. Rest of the actors do their bit in shouldering the film.
As for the film’s music, barring a couple of tracks, the film boasts of hummable tracks. Honey Singh’s track ‘Hitman’ is already a hit... man! It would have been more impactful if the said track was in the film’s story rather than being featured towards the end.
A special mention to the film’s background music, which blends seamlessly with the film’s hard-hitting narrative. In the same breath, let us also hand out a special mention to the film’s actor directors for having done a super spending job.
All in all, Fateh is definitely a must watch for everyone as it serves as an eyeopener of sorts about the dark world of cybercrime.
