The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Review - A harmless and enjoyable conclusion to the current phase of the MCU
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Mantis and Drax travel to Earth to find Peter the perfect Christmas gift.
The holiday special from James Gunn is a short and sweet addition to the MCU . The story revolves around Mantis and Drax deciding to travel to Earth in order to find and bring actor Kevin Bacon as a Christmas present for Peter Quill.
The special is only 45 minutes long and doesnt have the usual level of humor or charm that the director usually brings to his work and feels inconsequential.
That doesnt mean it was an awful viewing experience but it is something that you could skip unless you are a hardcore MCU fan, there is only one revelation in this Marvel Christmas story and it did lead to a rather sweet moment in the climax.
The acting holds up ok and it was fun to see Kevin Bacon reacting to being kidnapped but a lot of jokes don't really land and feels like most of them were probably were rejects from the movies.
One big highlight is the soundtrack, James Gunn once again delivers some memorable songs and this does feel like a teaser for what we can expect from GOTG Vol 3.
There was an animated segment at the being of the special which was thought to be 1980 cartoons like Johnny Quest and The Herculoids and was a nice addition espaiclly because of some excellent voice acting from Michael Rooker.
So the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is at best a one-time watch, that you can afford to skip out on or just skip through.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
