House of the Dragon Episode 5 Review: The perfect setup for the latter episodes as the series reaches the mid season
House of the Dragon
King Viscerys I arranges a marriage between princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon
As the series reaches the mid-way mark, one can't help but wonder where the next episode will take us, we do know that from the sixth episode of the series we take a time jump and feature a now adult Rhaenyra Targaryen as she takes over the reins from her father the king.
The fifth episode titled "We Light the Way" directed by Clare Kilner is one of the best setups I have seen for the latter half of the season, the episode focus on the wedding between princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon and as is Westaroes tradition there were was bloodshed.
The setup to the wedding is filled with broken hearts, Murder, and the usual plotting but how it ultimately culminates in an expected bought of violence but which came from an expected source.
Meanwhile, Daemon returns to the capital for the wedding after meeting his wife in The Vale, Matt Smith even with his limited screen time in the episode proves how much of a wildcard he is in the show.
The episode also displays King Viserys failing health and his rocky relationship with his wife, it will be interesting if we do get to see the King again after the time skip but what is certain in the hostility between the princess and the Queen will be explored.
Another stand-out in the episode was Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, whose character arc to an unexpected turn and one which the actor pulled off well.
The series remains engaging and continues to up the ante with each episode and hopefully, the latter half of the season can live up to the build-up.
