Andor Episode 10 Review - Cassian mounts a thrilling prison escape

As it was hinted at in the last episode, Anodr finally convinces his fellow prisoners to mount their escape they are finally convinced when about the truth of their situation by Kino Loy played by an excellent Andy Serkis.

The actual prison escape remained to be of older prison break movies like the Clint Eastwood starrer Escape from Alcatraz with a little bit of Michael Bay's 1996 movie The Rock sprinkled in.

The biggest stand out of the episode is Andy Serkis and his portrayal of Loy, who has to quickly come to terms with the fact that the freedom he has been working so hard for isn't real.

Serkis brilliantly conveys Loys's sadness and frustration and his final transformation into a leader, with a little bit of nudging from Andor.

 There is something very cool about watching Serkis shouting 'attack' at the top of his lungs when leading a group of his fellow inmates into battle against their captures, it reminded me a lot of his performance in Planet of the Apes.

Another subtle bit of storytelling I particularly enjoyed was something that Cassian Andor had been saying throughout the series the Empire constantly looks down on people and underestimates them and they can't even imagine someone rising against them.

This proved to be true in this episode as a small malfunction created by Andor in the system led to a domino effect with each of the prison's security systems failing and also revealing how unprepared they actually were at their job.

This also helps showcase Andor's ability to assess situations and despite how little the empire cares about him or people like him that he truly understands his enemies and their ways thus transforming him from just another victim of the Empire to a threat.

The episode also focuses on the efforts of Dedra Meero and The ISB to lay a trap for the rebels. which leads to one of the rebellion's double agents meeting with Luthen Rael(Stellan Skarsgård) and warning him.

 However, Rael says the trap must take place thus condemning 50 rebels to their death in order to protect his insider.

This led to him being questioned about his own humanity to which Skarsgad gives one of the best monologues in the show and just proves how good writing and strong performance can elevate an episode to the next level.

The episode and the series as a whole continue to impress and are a must-watch.
