Zoya Akhtar is one of the most sought-after filmmakers in the Hindi film industry. The 50-year-old filmmaker is the daughter of lyricist Javed Akhtar and his first wife, Honey Irani. She is gearing up for several releases this year including The Archies which marks the Bollywood debut of Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda; Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Adarsh Gaurav and many more. Born to a family of great poets
Her great-grandfather Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi was a scholar of Islamic studies and theology. Her great-grandfather Muztar Khairabadi was an Urdu poet Muztar and her grandfather Jan Nisar Akhtar was also a poet. Her father Javed is a legendary lyricist and screenwriter. Her stepmom Shabana Azmi is an iconic actress She has a brother Farhan Akhtar who is a talented director, actor, and musician.Appeared in small role in Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay
She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Xavier's College and went to New York University Tisch School of the Arts to study filmmaking. After finishing her studies, she chose to assist filmmakers Mira Nair, Tony Gerber, and Dev Benegal. She also did a small appearance as a dancer in Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay. She is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.Made her debut with Luck By Chance
She made her first film, Luck By Chance featuring her brother Farhan Akhtar along with a talented ensemble cast including Rishi Kapoor, Konkana Sen Sharma, Saif Ali Khan Hritik Roshan, and others.
