Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor won our hearts 25 years ago as Rahul, Pooja and Nisha when their film Dil To Pagal Hai released. There was music, dancing, romance and Akshay Kumar as Ajay was the cherry on top. Even after so many years, the film remains iconic till date. Akshay Kumar was not paid for his work
Jackie Shroff was the original choice for second lead Ajay’s character. However, Yash Chopra decided to go with Akshay in the end to give the role a younger feel. When Akshay approached the director for his payment post shoot, Chopra refused and told him to feel grateful that he was a part of a Yash Raj film. Back then, Akshay had delivered a series of flops. Shah Rukh had agreed to headline Dil To Pagal Hai while shooting for Darr. But there was a slight clash between him and the filmmaker post Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, because SRK wanted a hike post release since his film did exceptionally well. This did not go down well with Yash Chopra and he began considering Aamir Khan for the role. He even asked his assistants to contact Mr Perfectionist. When Shah Rukh heard about this, he met up with Chopra and they sorted out the whole issue.Karisma Kapoor was not the first choice
The role of Nisha was initially offered to Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla, Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty. While the rest turned it down, Urmila walked out two days before shooting began. It was then that Karisma Kapoor was approached. 24 hours after she received the offer, Karisma agreed to do the film. In the film, Karisma’s character Nisha injures her leg while rehearsing for their play and the doctor advices her to avoid dancing for the next few months.
