This Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer faced major protests after reportedly a rumor about a dream sequence between the characters of Queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji started doing the rounds. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was also attacked by some protest groups while the sets were manhandled. The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra had faced the brunt of the boycott Bollywood brigade due to some past statements made by the lead couple that was deemed controversial. Some netizens also found things shown in the film's trailer to be allegedly disrespectful to Hindu mythology and culture. However, the movie has already earned Rs 335.25 crore globally and Rs 247.62 crore nationwide after its second weekend.Dangal (2016)
While Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha succumbed to the boycott Bollywood brigade, his 2016 film Dangal had emerged victorious at the box office despite similar protests against it. Dangal had earned a mammoth Rs 387.38 crore nationwide becoming the highest-grossing film of that year. It also created a record of amassing Rs 2000 crore globally from its overseas collection.
