Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 3 Joins Top-10 South Remakes In Bollywood That Minted Huge Moolah

Baaghi 3 is one of the biggest action films to come out of Bollywood in recent times. A remake of Tamil flick Vettai, Sajid Nadiadwala and Ahmed Khan's Baaghi 3 has clearly taken the germ of the subject and then turned the whole narrative inside out by emerging as an out and out action entertainer, what with the leading man Tiger Shroff raging a war on an entire nation [Syria] no less.

Last year, Kabir Singh emerged as an all time blockbuster remake of Arjun Reddy. The business of remaking South films has returned with a vengeance and the trend that caught momentum with Ghajini is only seeing further momentum a decade down the line. Let's take a look at Top-10 South remake money grossers that Bollywood has seen over the years gone by. Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion and 2.0 have not been added since these were dubbed films, not remakes.

Kabir Singh - 278.24 crores - Remake of Arjun Reddy [Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey]

This has turned out to be biggest of them all and that too by a margin. On its release, Arjun Reddy was a small film that became reasonably big in its good run down South. However, when Shahid Kapoor came into picture, Kabir Singh became ultra huge and ended up doing triple the business of what most expected out of it. A rare love story remake that has done so well.

Simmba - 240.31 crores - Remake of Temper [N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Kajal Aggarwal]

Though Simmba is said to be a remake of South success Temper, there is hardly anything common between the two films except for three or four scenes. The core plot of the two films was similar but Rohit Shetty changed the entire milieu and ambience of his Ranveer Singh starrer and managed to bring in far more pan-India appeal despite a very Maharashtra set up.

Kick - 232 crores - Remake of Kick [Ravi Teja, Ileana D'Cruz]

When Ravi Teja and Ileana D'Cruz paired up for Kick, it turned out to be a good fun flick. A few years down the line, Sajid Nadidwala picked up the rights of the film. In fact he turned out to be an accidental director as well when Salman Khan went ahead and announced his name as the man who would call the shots. Result? The action comedy emerged as a huge blockbuster.

Baaghi 2 - 166 crores - Remake of Kshanam [Adivi Sesh, Adah Sharma]

Yet another Sajid Nadiadwala film, this time he backed director Ahmed Khan as a producer. Yet again, there was hardly any similarity between Baaghi 2 and the original South film Kshanam. While that film was a more intimate affair and made on a modest budget, Baaghi 2 turned out to be really huge with action at the core of it other than the emotions. Tiger Shroff nailed it.

Bodyguard - 149 crores - Remake of Bodyguard [Dileep, Nayantara]

Despite the fact that Salman Khan was at the center of affairs, there wasn't much difference between the original Bodyguard and the remake. The soul of the film was kept intact and so were the emotions. However, with Salman Khan at the forefront along with Kareena Kapoor Khan, there was a bit more action integrated into the screenplay. The film was a major success.

Rowdy Rathore - 133 crores - Remake of Vikramarkudu [Ravi Teja, Anushka Shetty]

This is one film that indeed deserves a sequel for itself and if the insider reports are any indications, it is happening as well with Akshay Kumar green-lighting the project. As for the film in itself, it was a faithful remake of Vikramarkudu which was yet another Ravi Teja film (after Kick) which had enticed Bollywood filmmakers. A fun entertainer, it emerged as a major superhit.

Ready - 120 crores - Remake of Ready [Ram Pothineni, Genelia D'Souza]

One of the earlier remake affairs of Salman Khan, Ready was on the same lines as the original one which had Ram Pothineni in the lead. A family entertainer with a complete mix of romance, emotions, music, action, comedy and other 'masala', it saw the baton been transferred from Genelia D'Souza to Asin. The Anees Bazmee directed film managed to score a century.

Ghajini - 114 crores - Remake of Ghajini [Suriya, Asin]

This is the film which started it all, as far as a South remake turning out to be pan-India success is concerned. Back then no film had ever entered the 100 Crore Club. However, when Aamir Khan decided to remake the South namesake film, many wondered what did the very title mean. Moreover, it was based on a villain's name. Well, it didn't matter as history was created.

Holiday - 113 crores - Remake of Thuppakki [Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal]

While director A.R. Murugadoss was the man behind Ghajini, he also helmed Akshay Kumar starrer Holiday which was the remake of Thuppakki. The Vijay starrer was a good action affair with the story of an army officer been told in a good mix of realism and commercial appeal. The Hindi remake too treaded that path and turned out to be a good respectable affair for all.

Son of Sardaar - 105 crores - Remake of Maryada Ramanna [Suneel, Saloni Aswani]

This was the time when Ajay Devgn had already done one South remake, Singham. That one had turned out to be a major success and then he went ahead and picked S.S. Rajamouli's family drama Maryada Ramanna. That was one was a much smaller affair and when Ajay Devgn came on board along with Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha, the film became really huge.
