The Big Bull: Abhishek Bachchan Calls His Character ‘Flawed’; Reacts To Comparisons With Scam 1992

Abhishek Bachchan is currently busy soaring high on the love received by the trailer of his upcoming film, The Big Bull. Directed by Kookie Gulati and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, the film follows the life story of stockbroker Harshad Mehta, changed to Hemant Shah in the film and portrayed by Abhishek, and the financial crimes he was involved in. While fans are quite excited to see Abhishek in this different avatar, many can’t help but compare the upcoming film to the already released web series Scam 1992, which also focuses on the infamous rags-to-riches story.

In a recent chat with Mid Day, Abhishek opened up about his role and shared, “Hemant Shah, my character is a flawed one.” He went on to explain, “I was clear in my initial discussions that if he is aspirational, he has to be shown as a flawed man. If everything about him was to be heroic, he’d be unidimensional. He has human frailties and I like the fact that he slips. He is so taken in by the world he has helped create. We have come of age as an audience. We want our heroes to be real and flawed. Hemant is from a chawl and then owns an apartment with a swimming pool in the balcony. It’s easy to take a stand on this guy but what makes him interesting for me is that we show him for who he is.”

Talking about comparisons to the web series, Abhishek stated, “All my life, I have been compared to the best in the business. It doesn’t frazzle me.” He went on to add that comparisons are fine as long as they are being compared to good content. However, he explained that in terms of design and intention, episodic series and movies are quite different and hence cannot be compared.

Well, the actor feels the audience will decide the fate of the film, which premieres on Disney+Hotstar on 8th April.
