Taapsee Reveals She's Been Replaced Because The Hero's Wife Didn't Want Her In A Film, Been Told She's Not Pretty Enough
Taapsee Pannu Talks Misogyny In The Film Industry
Taapsee Pannu is force to reckon with in Bollywood and the actress with all her strong performances and opinions has been busy breaking the mould with every film she signs. Not your typical damsel in distress heroine, Taapsee’s film choices are both refreshing and enlightening but that doesn’t mean the actress has been privy to prejudice in the testosterone fueled film industry.
The actress whose powerful roles in Thappad, Pink, Saand Ki Aankh and Badla and many other projects have re-written the rules for women in films, Taapsee revealed that like many others she too has faced the issues early in her career where she was replaced in films or asked to make adjustments for the sake of a male star in a project till she ultimately decided to set out on her own path.
Taapsee in an interview with Filmfare said, “I faced some really weird things in the beginning like she isn’t pretty enough. I’ve been replaced because the hero’s wife didn’t want me to be part of the film. I was dubbing for one of my films and I was told that the hero didn’t like my dialogue so I should change it. When I refused to change it, they got a dubbing artiste to do it behind my back. There was a time when I was told the hero’s previous film didn’t work, so you slash your price because we need to control the budget. There was some hero who wanted my introduction scene changed because he felt it would overpower his introduction scene. These are the things that have happened in front of me, I don’t know what’s happened behind my back.”
The Thappad star went on to add that after these experiences she decided to only work on projects that made her genuinely happy and work on women oriented films. Taapsee did get warned about the repercussions of making such choices but she did it anyway and is enjoying it so far.
