Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death Sparks Conversation About Mental Health; Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar And Others Speak Up
Sushant Singh Rajput’s passing is a huge loss for Bollywood. The versatile 34 year old had just started out some seven years ago was found dead in his Mumbai home and the industry is reeling in shock. His death, however, has started a big conversation about mental health and celebrities like Karan Johar and Deepika Padukone have spoken about it in their posts on social media.
The actor was reportedly under treatment for depression and after the news broke out fans and celebrities alike have taken to social media to encourage people facing the same issues to at least talk to someone and not be alone.
Deepika Padukone who has been through a difficult phase herself started an organization, Live, Love, Laugh to spark conversation about mental health issues. In her post she wrote, As a person who has had a lived experience with mental illness, I cannot stress enough about the importance of reaching out. Talk. Communicate. Express. Seek. Help. Remember, you are not alone, we are in this together and most importantly there is hope.
The actor’s Kai Po Che co-star Amit Sadh too felt sad he didn’t reach out to the late actor.
Karan Johar who mourned Sushant’s death with a post said that his passing has been an eye opener and also said he felt guilty about not reaching out and talking to him when he felt he could use someone to talk to. In his note he said, ‘We live in very energetic and noisy but still very isolated times ...some of us succumb to these silences and go within...we need to not just make relationships but also constantly nurture them....Sushants unfortunate demise has been a huge wake up call to me ...to my level of compassion and to my ability to foster and protect my equations.....I hope this resonates with all of you as well...’
Anil Kapoor who was not acquainted to the late actor personally too posted a note on his death and asked his followers to look out for their loved ones. Illeana D’Cruz to shared a long post saying, ‘It’s ok not to be ok.’ Vir Das, Minissha Lamba and Shreyas Talpade to shared a note asking everyone to look out for their near and dear ones who might be going through a difficult time.
Sushant Singh Rajput has last year starred in the film Chhichhore that spoke about learning from failure and not giving up. The actor’s death has truly been a reminder that outwardly happiness doesn’t really mean that a person is doing well.
