Parmeet Sethi Feels His Character Kuljeet From DDLJ Was The Kabir Singh Of That Time: It Was Such A Fun Character
Parmeet Sethi Compares His Kuljeet To Kabir Singh
A blockbuster like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is hard to come by. The movie that ran in theatres until the Covid-19 pandemic led cinemas to shut down has on October 20 completed 25 years since its release and still remains as popular with this generation as it was in the 90’s when it debuted. Among one of the film’s pivotal characters was Parmeet Sethi’s Kuljeet a Punjabi hunk who Kajol’s Simran was being made to marry by her father.
Talking about his character 25 years later Parmeet mulls over losing Simran to Raj and being thought of as the real hero of DDLJ by some. The actor tells Indian Express, “It’s so funny, and I don’t know where to look when people say that Kuljeet was a better choice [for Simran]. I think the way it was written, and played out, especially the Punjabiyat caught the imagination of the youth. It was never seen before. I think Kuljeet was the Kabir Singh of that time with all his macho elements (laughs). It was such a fun character, and being so boisterous, people connected with him instantly.”
When asked what he thinks would happen if Kuljeet got Simran in the end instead of Raj the actor says that it would still have worked but it would have been a very different movie.
