BBC Documentary On Jiah Khan's Death Receives Flak
Bollywood actress Jiah Khan’s death remains a mystery even after 8 years of her demise. Her alleged suicide and the investigation that followed has now become a part of BBC Two documentary ‘A Death In Bollywood’ which was aired in three parts in the U.K.
The documentary which sheds light on the whole investigation that ruled Jiah’s death as suicide and also includes interviews from her mother Rabiya Khan who believes the actress was murdered. Jiah’s Sooraj Pancholi who was named in her suicide note and later faced charges of abetment also makes an appearance in the second episode of the documentary series and defends himself.
“I am not the person who has driven her to what she's done. It was not me, there's a bigger picture,” says Sooraj in the documentary. Not just him, Sooraj’s father also makes a case for his son saying, “Sooraj was charged for abetment to suicide. He got a bail and if you carefully read it, the order is almost like acquittal. I am just telling the court, please find out who the murderer is and acquit us from this abetment to suicide, because according to her (Rabia Khan) it is not suicide at all.”
Well, the inclusion of the Pancholis' in the documentary has led to a backlash by the viewers after the serious charges that Sooraj is yet to be acquitted of. Some viewers took to social media to express their disapproval and painted him to be the villain of the story.
Rabiya Khan, Jiah’s mother, maintains that Sooraj is to be blamed for the death of the actress. He, however, maintains that he only dated Jiah for five months before she died and she confided in him about her depression. There was however a section of the audience that sympathized with the actor for everything that he had to go through after his girlfriend's death.
Jiah Khan was found dead in her Mumbai based apartment in 2013. The case which was probed by the CBI for 8 years was shut with the conclusion that Jiah committed suicide. The investigating agency however did not drop charges of abetment against Sooraj under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code which he is being tried under.
